Every dollar counts

"Lemonade, get your lemonade!" At the recent Taste of Tacoma young Fiona (6 years old) and her sister, Kyra (4 years old) decided to put up a lemonade stand in order to help kids go to YFCamp this summer.  Fiona is friends with Lucy, Doug Jonson's (YFC City Life staff) daughter and heard stories about kids who want to go to camp from Tacoma's inner city but can't afford it. So she decided to help.  The picture below is Fiona bringing the $60 she made from the lemonade stand to Doug Jonson for YFC City Life/Sozo camp. Wow!

This Saturday morning 215 high school and middle schoolers (as of today...but that number keeps increasing!), 46 leaders, and 28 work crew from Tacoma are leaving the Foss High School parking lot in a caravan of 5 chartered buses and one freight truck (for luggage) to convoy down I-5 to the Young Life owned Canyons camp.  When they arrive they'll join over 500 other kids and leaders from YFC chapters across the country for the best week of their lives.  Two concurrent camps (high school and middle school) with amazing large group gatherings, the best programming (fun/games/skits) and speakers from YFC around the country to lead, mountain biking, a ropes course,  a zip line over a man made lake, Olympic sized pool, huge gym/activiies center, and so much more. All geared to kids hearing about the love of God and a relationship with Jesus.

For the past 8 months our Tacoma YFC staff have done car washes, bake sales, work parties and asked individuals to invest in kids by sending them to camp. For many kids, this will be their first trip out of Pierce County and they'll get the chance to hear that Jesus loves them and wants them to know him in a dynamic, daily, personal relationship.

Tacoma may never be the same after these kids return from camp--freedom from addiction, anger, bitterness, gangs and drug abuse--I can't wait to hear the stories!  But we still need your help: as of today we're still about $6,000 short of reaching the goal of covering all camp costs.  Little Fiona gave all she could--$60 hard earned dollars--because she believes God can change lives at camp. Will you help as well? It costs $300 to send a kid to camp so any gift will make a big difference--$100, $60, $20.  If you'd like to help out today, please click here and you'll be taken to our Tacoma YFC web site's giving page. Once there, simply choose "summer camp" under the Core Ministry Teams drop down menu, then "General Canyons Camp fund" under the next drop down subcategory along with name, address, phone email and how you'd like to contribute (we accept Mastercard, Visa, and Discover as well as payment by Electronic Check from your bank account).

In less than four days 215+ kids will be on their way to experiencing a life changing week at camp...Fiona and Kyra helped with their $60...will you join us as well? It will be an investment that will change a young life!
