One Year of Parent Life

Recently we celebrated our One Year Anniversary at Parent Life and it was extraordinary!
Last week I invited a good friend of mine, Stella, to come speak to the girls that meet for Parent Life (PL). Stella was once a teen mom who lived and worked in Hilltop for 14 years and became a social justice and spiritual leader. She now lives in California but visits frequently, and I wanted to encourage my girls with her story. Stella prayed for over a month on what to speak about and let me tell you - God provided!
I would say the girls in PL are probably the most "emotionally guarded" girls I know.
They don't cry and it takes a lot of time and effort to get them to be vulnerable even during one-on-one meetings. It was a breakthrough moment to see the girls open up especially in the midst of a “stranger”. They shared what their definition of a woman was, how women are portrayed, and what God has placed inside of each of them. They opened up about the heartache and pain they feel in their present situations.
I realized how much we’ve grown as a PL family. The tears were flowing (and this time not just from me)! God was there. His Spirit was at work and it was beautiful! It was such a gift for our one year Anniversary. One year ago we had our first leaders team meeting. Since then we’ve added volunteers, outreached to the community and partners, and now have learned how to share, embrace, and love each other.
We ended the night with encouragement from Stella:
“May you be content knowing that you are a child of greatness. Let that greatness settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, and bask in the sun.”
GLORY TO GOD FOR HE DOES GREAT AND MARVELLOUS THINGS!
