1, 2, 3, Eyes on Me!

1, 2, 3 eyes on me..remember that phrase? Even today it takes me back to grade school and the pleas of Mrs Parrish for her 3rd graders attention.

The truth is, we all love attention, don't we? When someone focuses on us for at least a few minutes that simple act says, "Yep, you're worth it. Keep talking."

I had the privilege of watching this principle in action at Truman MS Campus Life the other day. In between games, before the main discussion and as Campus Life wound down Ken, Jared and Hailey (Campus Life superstar leaders) gave undivided attention to energy filled 6th, 7th and 8th graders.

What's so great about that, Bobby, you ask? This is a full contact emotional sport, that's what. When the conversation ranges from the latest song from Lady Gaga to their high score on Call of Duty to, what was that, a squirrel?!? You get the picture.

But for the hour of Campus Life those kids were told, both in word and action, that they are worth it. Their opinions, their interests, even their persistent questions--"What does God look like? Why did mom and dad split up? When is the food gonna be ready?"

I love middle schoolers, even more now that I have three in my own home.  I'm really grateful that Ken and his YFC/Campus Life team are living out the message of Matthew 10:29-31 "Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside of your Father's care. and even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows."

Every hair numbered, for every kid at Truman. Full attention from these leaders, full attention from Jesus. Beautiful.
